Total Solar Eclipse 2024: Skygazers are eagerly awaiting one of the most exciting cosmic events of the year to happen tomorrow, Monday. The rare occurrence of a total solar eclipse on Earth is not so unusual on Jupiter, which has more than ninety moons orbiting it. On Sunday, NASA said five of its moons are close enough to the planet to occult the sun, making double, triple and even multiple eclipses common on the gas giant.

US space agency, NASA, shared a post with pictures of solar eclipse on Jupiter on its social media handle. The photos were captured on the surface of Jupiter during a total solar eclipse caused by one of its moons, Ganymede.
“Jupiter’s five moons, Amalthea, Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto, are either large enough or close enough to the planet to completely hide the Sun. “Simultaneous double, triple and multiple eclipses are not uncommon on the planet,” NASA wrote in its social media post.

What does a solar eclipse look like on Jupiter?
As seen in the image shared by the US space agency, Jupiter’s clouds form colorful patterns including stripes, bands and swirls in blue and gray during a solar eclipse. The photos were taken by the Juno spacecraft, which was about 44,000 miles (71,000 km) above Jupiter’s cloud tops when the photo was clicked, and 15 times closer to the planet than Ganymede.
“On the left side of the image, Jupiter’s surface is darkened by the shadow of Ganymede, one of its moons,” NASA wrote in its post.
According to NASA’s official website, a total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon obstructs Earth’s direct view of the Sun, “by completely blocking the face of the Sun.” Due to a solar eclipse, the sky will become “dark as if it were dawn or twilight.”
Countries where solar eclipse 2024 will be visible on Monday
Solar eclipse will not be visible in India. However, it can be viewed by people in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and other parts of North America. “The total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024 will pass across North America, Mexico, the United States and Canada,” the space agency said on its website.
