Kohima, Nagaland Chief Minister NeePhu Rio on Friday announced a series of transformational educational reforms with the aim of aligning the state’s education system with national and global standards.
Addressing the day celebrations of state level teachers, the CM reiterated the government’s commitment to build a strong, inclusive and future education sector for future.
The upcoming launch of the SOAR mission was a comprehensive program – a comprehensive program that was designed to enhance teaching quality, evaluation standards and school management practices for the global benchmark.
“We are entering a new phase of educational development. SOAR mission will be our vehicle for transformational change,” Rio said.
He also announced the establishment of the Nagaland State School Standards Authority in line with the National Education Policy 2020 to regulate and ensure quality standards in all schools.
Supporting this effort will soon be Final Nagaland School Quality Evaluation and Assurance Infrastructure.
The CM highlighted several other progressive stages, including the introduction of maternal-free education in partnership with the University of Nagaland for the development of tribal languages and the certification of language teachers.
Taking advantage of the rich music heritage of Nagaland, plans are going on to integrate music education at the primary level through the cooperation of the TAFMA department.
Additionally, efforts are being made to strengthen basic phase education through convergence with the Social Welfare Department.
“These initiatives, along with NEP 2020, with SDG -4 on Quality Education, and Nipun India Mission, will ensure that Nagaland’s education system is linked and ready for the future,” Rio said.
He said that Nagaland now rank as India’s third most literate state, with a literacy rate of 95.7 percent, which was 21.95 percent in the state in 1963.
He blamed this achievement for the dedication of teachers, policy makers and education leaders.
He said that an impressive pupil-teacher ratio of state 13: 1 also contains, which is much better than the national average, which enables personal and effective teaching, he said.
The CM praised the school leadership academy in Nagaland to gain national recognition for two consecutive years and urged all school heads and teachers to make full use of in-service training and leadership development opportunities.
Drawing his attention to the role of teachers, Rio called him a “backbone” and urged him to establish curiosity, compassion and important thinking among students.
He said, “We recommend ourselves to create a generation that is responsible, competent and full of integrity,” he said.
Advisor to School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kakhrielhauli Yom emphasized the importance of improving infrastructure, governance and education as three pillars of Nagaland’s educational change.
He said, “We are re -designing our system to ensure that no child is left behind, whether it is urban or most remote rural areas. Each child is best entitled, and should be strong to give each teacher his best,” he said.
