All is not over for My Hero Academia, even though the battle against All For One and Shigaraki ended in a spectacular fashion. As the name ‘Final War Arc’ suggests, fans speculated that this would be the final arc of the manga. This makes sense as all major characters, including All Might, Bakugo, Shoto, and Ochaco, as well as its central protagonist and antagonist, Deku and Shigaraki, have completed their character arcs. However, the appearance of a mysterious character in chapter 425 has opened the doors for new plot lines or perhaps a whole new story arc.
The arrival of a new character at the end of the story is a sign that the manga’s story will now take a new direction. The identity of the mysterious figure seen in the latest chapter of My Hero Academia is yet to be revealed. The chapter only reveals that the character is wandering the streets of Japan with tears in his eyes. This could be a return for All For One or Tenko, but their appearance would be pointless as their last arcs were the most satisfying.
Another speculation about the black-haired character is that it could be Deku’s father Hisashi Midoriya as the character was seen wearing a muzzle. The creator of the manga, Kohei Horikoshi, had mentioned a long epilogue for the popular manga, but a new character to end the existing ones makes little sense.
Aside from the appearance of the mysterious character, the superhero manga’s plot has a lot of holes to fill. Chapter 425 introduced readers to a new character named Mawata Futa, a third-year student, and revealed that Aoyama has left UA. It also confirmed that Deku will remain a student at the Hero Academy even without a quirk and who knows he might become the first hero of his kind. Deku needs to accomplish a lot of his goals, fulfill his promise to Shigaraki, and reform the hero society to avoid the origin of victims and villains like Tenko.
These storylines would require more than a lengthy epilogue to provide a satisfying ending.
