Deepak Rawat was born on 20 September 1977. He grew up in Mussoorie and did his schooling from St. Geroge’s College. He eventually moved to Delhi for higher education, earning a BA from Hansraj College, Delhi University and an MA in History from JNU. He has also done MPhil in Ancient History from JNU. Adhikari Rawat’s journey to achieve his dreams was not an easy one. At the age of 24, he stopped receiving financial support from his father. After being selected in JRF, he used to meet his expenses with the Rs 8000 he received every month.
Deepak Rawat became interested in UPSC after meeting some students from Bihar during graduation. He faced failure in his first two attempts before clearing the UPSC Civil Services examination with 12th rank in 2007. In his IAS interview, Officer Rawat was asked what one can learn from the number zero. In his response he said that Zero taught people to be neutral. Officer Rawat also said that zero has no meaning. Therefore, one should be careful not to fall below this level in life.
