The US embassy in India on Saturday issued a new warning to Indian students and said that if they violate or arrested any law, there will be ‘serious consequences’, which can invite various tasks unqualified for future US visas, which are being canceled the visa.
“US law can have serious consequences for your student visa. If you are arrested or any law is violated, your visa may be canceled, you may be exiled, and you may be disqualified for future US visas,” the US Embassy said in a post on X.
The American embassy further said, “Follow the rules and don’t endanger your journey. An American visa is a privilege, not a right.”
In another warning released a few days ago, the embassy said, “If you live beyond your authorized period of living in the United States, you can be deported and face a permanent ban on travel to the United States in the future.”
US visa application process new rules for Indians
From August 1 this year, the third-party passport collection is no longer allowed at US Visa Application Centers, except for 18-year-old applicants. This means that you have to either collect your passport personally or choose the option of paid delivery service. For minors, a parent or guardian can collect passports on behalf of the child, but they should have a letter from the authority signed by the parents. However, one should take care that the scan or email copies of the letter will not be accepted.
Additionally, the American Embassy is rolling out a new service that allows applicants to deliver their passports directly to their home or office. This service will cost 1,200 per applicant. To use it, you have to log in to your account on ustraveldocs.com website and update your delivery preferences accordingly.
In the context of the interview discount program, significant cuts are being made. From September 2, 2025, several applicants who could have left the earlier in-year interview would now need to participate in one American Embassy or Consulate. This includes applicants for visas in categories like H, L, F, M, J, E, and O, the report states.
In addition, age discount for in-tradition interviews has been removed, which means that children under 14 and more than 79 adults should now participate in the interview. However, some visa categories will still be free from this change, including A -1 and A -2 visas, some C -3 visas, G -1 to G -4 visa, NATO -1 to NATO -6 visa and TECRO E -1 visa.
Despite these changes, some things remain the same. The visa fee continues 365 days from the date of validity payment, and the appointment scheduling can still be done through the official portal. The list of documents required for visa applications also remain unchanged.
A significant change is the introduction of a visa integrity fee, which will be effective on October 1, 2025. This new fee of $ 250 will apply to most non-resident visa applications. The objective of this fee is to fund additional safety screening, increase the integrity of the visa process and help to offset administrative costs. While the fee itself is non-worthy, applicants complying with visa regulations may be eligible for correspondence, although the refund process remains completely underlined.
