Mumbai, “Four more shots please!” It will end with the release of the fourth season but its actors Sayani Gupta and Maanvi Gagroo are not ready to say goodbye yet.
Both actors are hopeful that the Prime Video show will return in some form in the next few years.
The series tells the story of four undeniably flawed women Gupta, Bani J, Kirti Kulhari and Gagroo as they live, love, make mistakes and discover new things. The first season released in 2019 and became an instant hit. It was followed by a second season in 2020 and a third season in 2022. The fourth season will debut on December 19 on Prime Video.
Gupta believes “Four more shots please!” The popular American series, “Sex and the City,” is likely to have multiple seasons.
The actor told PTI in an interview, “I still think this is a show that could go on for eight to 10 seasons, it could go on forever like ‘Sex and the City’, and then comes the recent one. I honestly feel inside I’ll never say never. So, every time you’re saying final, it feels more final than we actually thought.”
Gagroo teased, “This is the final season, but it’s not the final goodbye because we will live on in your hearts.”
The actors and team of ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’ became very emotional while remembering the last day of shooting of the show.
He said, “There were tears and all that. But somehow when I saw it literally written, and it had the final season written in it, that’s when it hit me.”
Produced by Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy, the final season brings back the lead quartet Gupta, Bani and Kulhari and Gagroo. The show is developed and written by Devika Bhagat, with dialogues by Ishita Moitra.
Gupta, known for her subtle performances in “Article 15” and “Margarita with a Straw,” said, “Four more shots please!” This proved to be a turning point in his career.
She said, “It’s a big part of my career, like how people look at me, strangers calling me Damini Rizvi Roy, which is the biggest compliment an actor can get. The kind of love we get globally, the letters we get and a lot of people saying this show has impacted their lives. Our careers changed, but this show is a big part of all of our lives and will always be.”
The three actors – Gupta, Gagroo and Bani fondly recall how they came to the show.
Bani, who plays the quirky character of a gym trainer named Umang in the show, said she was determined not to play the role in a “sarcastic” manner.
“I read the script and I thought, ‘Let’s do it.’
Bani said, “I used to say, this is a good opportunity to show a character and how it should be portrayed as a real human being and not in a caricatured way, like most industries do with queer characters.”
Gupta revealed that the producers had approached him for another part in 2017 but he found the role of an investigative journalist more appealing.
He said, “I liked all four parts, but Damini talked me out of it. At that time, she had someone else in mind as a star.”
Gagroo said that when she was offered the series it reminded her of the Sarah Jessica Parker-fronted show, “Sex and the City”.
“When I first read the script, I thought, ‘This is like ‘Sex and the City,’ this is India’s ‘Sex and the City,’ and I have to be a part of it, because I’m a huge fan of that show. He shared his vision and I loved every part of it. I knew I had to do it,” said the actor, who plays Siddhi Patel, a rich boy.
“The thing that impressed me the most was that up until that time, whenever there were stories with women at the center, they were usually about all the bad things that happen to them, like you’re talking about femicide or violence or something but there was never anything where women were celebrated, or humanized.
Gagroo said, “The female friendship was at the core of it and that’s what people liked. And that’s why we’re here, four seasons and eight years later.”
The final season will also bring back Prateik SM Patil, Milind Soman, Rajeev Siddhartha, Lisa Ray and Ankur Rathee, while Dino Morea, Anasuya Sengupta and Kunaal Roy Kapur are the newcomers.
