New Delhi. The latest figures for the sale of hatchback cars for May 2024 have come. It can be seen in these that except Maruti Swift, no other hatchback has achieved growth on an annual basis. Hatchback sales have declined in the last few years. Actually now people have started liking SUVs a lot in the market. Now there are very few hatchbacks available in the market and only a few are able to sell better.
Maruti Suzuki Swift launched the fourth-generation Swift last month. It now has a more efficient but powerful three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. It has replaced the old K12 1.2-liter four-cylinder petrol engine. This new model has helped Swift to come to the top spot. It has become the best-selling passenger vehicle in the country. The company sold 19,393 units last month. There is 12% YoY growth here. Out of the 5 models, Swift is the only one that has achieved positive YoY growth on an annual basis.

The second name in the list is Maruti Wagon R. 14,492 units of this car were sold in May. However, there was a decline of 11% on the base. It is available in the market at a starting price of Rs 5.54 lakh (ex-showroom).
Next on the list is Baleno, which sold 12,842 units last month. Its sales have declined by 31 percent on an annual basis. Its starting ex-showroom price is Rs 6.66 lakh. Next on the list is Maruti Alto. Last month in May, 7,675 units of it were sold. Here its sales have declined by 13 percent on an annual basis.
Talking about Tata Tiago, only 5,927 units were sold in May 2024. There has been a decline of 27 percent compared to May last year. It is available in the market at a starting price of Rs 5.65 lakh.
