What did Mamta Banerjee say in the Eid-ul-Fitr incident?
Mamta Banerjee on Monday criticized the BJP for an attempt to incite “communal riots through divisive politics” in the state and said that the “Ganda religion” of the saffron camp was contrary to the real principles of Hinduism.
Speaking at an Eid prayer program on Red Road in Kolkata, CM Banerjee said, “I follow religion after Shri Ramakrishna Paramahaansa and Swami Vivekananda. I do not follow the ‘Ganda Dharam’ created by him (BJP), he is also against Hinduism.”
According to the PTI report, CM Mamta Banerjee said, “The riots are being instigated to fuel, but please do not fall into these nets. The West Bengal government stands with minorities. No tension in the state can instill.”
The CM also targeted the BJP, questioning, “If they (BJP) have problems with the minorities, will they change the constitution of the country?”
Mamta Banerjee confirmed her commitment to respect all religions, expressing opposition to the BJP’s “divisive politics”, which she called “Jumla Politics”.
TMC Chairperson said that not all are against Hindu Muslims, but only some political leaders who are engaged in “Saudagiri” (trade) under the guise of religion.
He said, “If we stand together, I will end it on it.”
BJP asks ‘kaun sa dharm ganda hai’
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari shared a video clipping of CM Mamata Banerjee on his X profile and attacked a long post while attacking the Bengal CM.
“You made a statement happy with the Urdu dialect out of your almost understanding, you made a statement that you do not follow ‘Ganda Dharma’ or ‘Dirty Dharma’. Which religion were you referring to?
The officer accused Mamata Banerjee of repeatedly using the word “Dang” (riot) during her speech and questioned whether the incident was intended to be religious or politically motivated. In addition, he alleged that his comment was an attempt to incite hostility among the communities to take care that such a divisive strategy would eventually return to it.
BJP leader Amit Malviya echoed similar feelings and said, “Is Sanatan Dharma a ‘Ganda Dharam’ for Mamata Banerjee? Despite many anti -Hindu riots under his rule, he makes fun of Hindus and gets his faith. He has once again given an independent pass to target Muslims.”
Kunal Ghosh defends Mamata Banerjee
TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh dismissed the BJP’s allegations and claimed that the Chief Minister never said anything against Hinduism, but was vocal against the communal politics of the BJP.
“She never said anything against Hinduism, but was speaking against the communal politics of the BJP, which claims to be the self-proclaimed patron of Hindus. By the word ‘Ganda Dharam’ she meant that the BJP had brought the BJP to push its own political agenda through religion.
