Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) leader Supriya Sule has claimed that her husband Sadanand Sule has received an Income Tax notice following his speech in the Lok Sabha during the Budget session of Parliament that concluded last week.
“We have received a notice from the Income Tax Department soon after the budget session,” she said. She further said, “I don’t know if it is a mere coincidence or not, but whenever I speak in Parliament, Sadanand Sule (her husband) gets a notice from the Income Tax Department.” Sule, a Lok Sabha MP from Baramati, said this in a press conference on August 12.
She said that now it has become a common thing that whenever she speaks against this (BJP) government in Parliament, her husband gets a notice from the Income Tax Department.
Speaking on the Wakf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha on August 8, Sule urged the government to either withdraw the Bill altogether or refer it to a standing committee. The Bill was eventually referred to a joint parliamentary committee for scrutiny.
She said she has asked her husband to collect data about these notices. She said the family has received similar notices six to seven times in the past, which are related to an old case on which her husband has already spoken.
Sule also confirmed that the WhatsApp accounts of three people, including hers, were “hacked” last week. She said the victims included a non-political person and party general secretary Aditi Nalawade.
“With agencies like the Income Tax Department, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) in place, the government does not need any application to hack phones of political opponents. Any kind of surveillance can be done,” he said.
Supriya Sule defeated Sunetra Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party in the Lok Sabha elections from the Baramati seat.
Sule urged people to be cautious and take additional security measures for their phones and WhatsApp accounts. He said, “This incident should be taken seriously by the government, service providers and us too. We all need a firewall because privacy is our choice.”
Sule also criticised state finance minister Ajit Pawar for being absent from the GST Council meetings. “If the state finance minister does not attend these meetings and discuss tax issues, how can such issues be resolved or the state’s demands be met?” she asked.
