You may have heard your doctor warning about the dangers of high cholesterol levels. Dr. Aseem Malhotra, a British cardiologist of Indian origin, has challenged that notion. They believe that cholesterol has nothing to do with heart disease.
Dr. Aseem Malhotra is a health advisor to the Donald Trump-aligned Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative. He is the same professional who linked King Charles and Princess Kate Middleton’s cancer to COVID-19 vaccines.
Most cardiology guidelines consider elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) to be a direct cause that should be controlled promptly. Cholesterol has no symptoms. Therefore, doctors encourage preventive action rather than waiting for trouble.
Doctors generally caution against high cholesterol because long-term studies link high LDL to a greater chance of heart attack and stroke.
Traditionally, doctors cite evidence from large trials that indicates that lowering LDL levels reduces the risk of future events in high-risk individuals.
According to Dr. Aseem Malhotra, most statin trials are industry-funded rather than independently verified. That’s why Gandhi-inspired cardiologists consider such tests biased.
Cardiologist Dr Malhotra said, “There was a belief that saturated fat causes heart disease. Now this is complete nonsense.”
“I wasn’t cherry-picking. I looked at all the data and put it together. It clearly showed there was no association. So, if saturated fat doesn’t cause heart disease, that means cholesterol may not be as important a risk factor for heart disease,” he said.
“So, I looked at all the cholesterol data, and I thought, wait a minute. For most people, it’s not a risk factor for heart disease, only in extreme cases. So, cholesterol is not that significant a risk factor,” the cholesterol expert said.
Lowering cholesterol is a complete waste of time
When Dr. Aseem Malhotra learned that cholesterol was not a significant risk factor, he wondered how statins worked to lower cholesterol levels. In 2021, he and two other cardiologists analyzed it.
“We took all the data published to date on randomized controlled trials on cholesterol-lowering drugs, and said, ‘Is there a connection from those trials that you lower LDL cholesterol, and you prevent cardiovascular events?’ Absolutely no connection,” Dr. Malhotra said.
He said, “So, my view to patients, and everyone who wants to hear this, is that lowering cholesterol is a complete waste of time, based on the best independently analyzed evidence.”
