Ravi Mittal, Founder and CEO, QuackQuack, shares with HT Lifestyle how digital dating is transforming romance in India, breaking geographical barriers and creating meaningful cross-city and cross-cultural connections.
How are digital daters redefining romance?
The world of dating is witnessing an unprecedented change. Digital daters, laptop-toting, globe-trotting, Wi-Fi-hunting romantics, who can take meetings from mountains and fall in love with someone they correspond with during their work. And this is not as rare as it may seem; In fact, a survey by dating app QuackQuack revealed that 16% of Indian daters have found their perfect match on the go. Work or travel didn’t stop him from finding love. And 2 out of 5 of these daters are willing to move to their partner’s city if their relationship demands it.

Why is nomadic dating making sense today?
This “nomadic dating” actually makes perfect sense in the current world. If jobs are no longer limited to pin codes, why should love be? With online dating, geographical boundaries are blurring and the idea of the ‘perfect match’ is also becoming blurred. A woman from Tamil Nadu might have once wanted to date a Tamil man because they would understand each other better, but that is no longer the case in 2025. Many people from one corner of the country have found their love in the other, leading to an unprecedented time of inter-state and inter-cultural relations.
Is long distance dating cruel or beneficial?
Of course, it’s not all rosy. The 12% of online matches in LDRs revealed that distance can sometimes be cruel, but they also expressed that the same long distance leads them to have more meaningful conversations and share more quality time when they eventually meet in person. In these long distance digital romances, where every moment counts, the idea of ”accepting” is less of a concern.
On an interesting note, cross-city daters claim that this format makes dating more exciting; There is more scope for travel, learning new things about different cultures, and ultimately, there is more acceptance and understanding when two people learn about each other’s values, traditions, and lifestyle from the start.
