Mohan Kumar’s brother has filed a complaint against the director and crew.
Light operator Mohan Kumar, aged 24, died after falling from a height of 30 feet.
In a shocking incident recently, a young light operator died after falling on a film set and famous Kannada film director Yogaraj Bhat and three others have been booked by the police. The deceased’s brother filed a complaint and a case of causing death due to negligence has been registered against the director, producer, manager and assistant manager of the production.
Light operator Mohan Kumar was just 24 years old. He fell from a height of 30 feet while removing a 30 feet high lighting rostrum after the shooting of the film Manada Kadalu. The incident took place at the VRL warehouse in Madanayakanahalli area of Bengaluru Rural district. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the injury on his head was fatal and he breathed his last on Tuesday. Following the operator’s death on Tuesday, the police have registered a case against director Yogaraj Bhat and three others.
According to the report, Mohan Kumar’s brother Shivarajau M has filed a complaint of death due to negligence. He has also filed a case against the director, producer, manager and assistant manager of the production. According to the Indian Express report, the complainant claimed that his brothers, Mohan Kumar (deceased) and Hemanth Kumar, worked as light technicians in the Kannada film industry.
Shivaraju claimed that the light technicians were not given any safety measures and this resulted in the death of his younger brother. He has also filed a case against the production’s manager Suresh Kumar and assistant manager Manohar. He claimed that the technicians used to work from 9 am to 6 pm and till 9 pm if required. On September 3, they were busy with lighting work on the film’s set and at around 5:10 pm, his brother was removing the rostrum. Shivaraju and another person were holding the rostrum while Mohan Kumar was working above. However, he was working without any safety equipment and the rostrum suddenly fell and Mohan also fell on the ground with him, causing head injuries. He was declared dead at 6:30 pm after being rushed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the film crew has reportedly accused Mohan Kumar of working without safety equipment, which eventually led to his death. Now, a case has been filed against the filmmakers under Section 106 (death due to negligence) of the Indian Justice Code.
