Solar Eclipse 2024: Another astronomical event is going to happen in the sky this month on 8th April, which is commonly known as Surya Grahan or Surya Grahan. Let’s see how the total solar eclipse of 2024 will be different from the previous eclipse of 2017.
“Due to differences in path, timing, and scientific research, the eclipse in 2024 may be even more exciting,” NASA said.
The space agency revealed that viewers will be able to catch a glimpse of the moon blocking the sun. This astronomical spectacle will enable viewers to see the outer atmosphere of the star.

How was the 2017 total solar eclipse different?
This time during the total solar eclipse, the Moon will be closer to the Earth than the total solar eclipse of 2017, making the path of that eclipse a little narrower.
path of totality
“In 2017, the path was about 62 to 71 miles wide,” the space agency said. During the April eclipse, the path across North America will be 108 to 122 miles wide – meaning that at any given time, the eclipse will cover more land.”

Additionally, the eclipse path of April 2024 will pass through more cities and densely populated areas than the path of previous total solar eclipses. “This will make it easier for more people to see totality,” the space agency said.
According to data reported by NASA, about 31.6 million people are in the path of the total solar eclipse this year. During the 2017 total solar eclipse, 12 million people lived in the path of totality. Additionally, 150 million people live within 200 miles of the path of totality.

NASA revealed that 99 percent of people living in the United States will be able to see the 2024 eclipse from where they live. “Every contiguous U.S. state, as well as parts of Alaska and Hawaii, will experience at least a partial solar eclipse,” the space agency said.
period of time
The eclipse of April 2024 will last longer than the eclipse of 2017. Totality this year will last for 4 minutes, 28 seconds, which is significantly longer than the longest duration of totality recorded seven years ago, which was 2 minutes, 42 seconds.

solar activity
“Every 11 years, the Sun’s magnetic field reverses, triggering a cycle of increasing and then decreasing solar activity,” the space agency said. During solar minimum, less massive explosions occur from the Sun, such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections. But during solar maximum, the Sun becomes more active.”
NASA further explained that during the 2024 eclipse the Sun will be at or near solar maximum, when the magnetic field will be like a matted hair.
Therefore, there is a possibility that these coronal mass ejections may be visible during the eclipse of 2024.
