On Kareena Kapoor’s show What Women Want, Kiran Rao talked about how Aamir Khan is credited for her success. This is what he said.
Filmmaker Kiran Rao was recently a guest on Kareena Kapoor’s Mirchi Plus show, What Women Want. There he played a game of ‘Glow or Lo’ with Kareena, which people call ‘Lo’ and attribute its success to her former partner actor Aamir Khan. ‘It’s definitely low’
Kareena gave Kiran placards with ‘Low’ and ‘Glow’ written on them and asked her questions, to which she responded by holding the placard. When Kiran was asked, “The credit for your success goes to Aamir Khan,” Kiran held up the ‘low’ placard and called it “definitely low”. She then clarified this further by claiming that although she attributes a lot of success in life to her, it is strange when others do the same.
“The thing is, I think it’s natural because he’s known as someone who does this kind of quality work, so you give him credit for that. Personally, I attribute a lot of my success in life to a very supportive and bright partner who matches me intellectually and supports everything I do. He’s had a hand in my life, but it’s one thing for others to attribute my accomplishments solely to him… and I think a lot of women are used to having that happen to them.’
In the same interview, Kiran said that she can ‘barely tolerate’ when Aamir ‘goes out’ and gives ‘lectures’. He also said it’s not ‘quite mansplaining’, but it comes ‘close to it’. Kiran and Aamir were married from 2005 to 2021. They were co-parents to their son Azad.
recent work
Kiran’s recent film Missing Ladies has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. The film, which stars Nitanshi Goyal, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Srivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan in the lead roles, was released in theaters in March. Kiran made her directorial debut with the 2011 film Dhobi Ghat and co-produced films like Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, Peepli Live, Delhi Belly, Talaash and Dangal with Aamir.
