Vishwajeet, who started his career from theatre, was counted among the most handsome heroes of his time. Vishwajeet traveled from theater artist to superstar. His childhood was spent in Kolkata, where he entered the world of acting through plays. Vishwajeet, who started his career with Bengali films, also made his mark in Hindi cinema and established himself as a superstar.
Vishwajit Chatterjee, who gave many successful films to Hindi cinema, did films like ‘Kohra’, ‘April Fool’, ‘Mere Sanam’, ‘Night in London’, ‘Do Kaliyan’, and ‘Kismat’. The success of these films gave him the image of a romantic hero and he became known as the ‘King of Romance’ of his time. But Vishwajit Chatterjee’s career suddenly fell due to a decision.
The magic of romance spread in films
There was magic of romance in Vishwajeet’s films. In his career he worked with actresses like Asha Parekh, Waheeda Rehman, Mumtaz, and Mala Sinha. He became comfortable with every role and actress and the audience loved the chemistry of these pairs. It is said that Vishwajeet’s father did not want his son to become an actor, he wanted him to do a stable job. But Vishwajeet chose the path of acting with his dedication and achieved a special place in Bengali cinema and Hindi films.
Time did not give a second chance
The peak period of Vishwajeet’s career was such that every film of his was a hit. However, there came a time when his career suddenly declined. When his career was at its peak, a friend advised him to try his hand in film production. The superstar followed this advice and produced and directed the film ‘Kehte Hain Mujhko Raja’ in 1975. This film had stars like Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha and Rekha, but unfortunately the film did not work. Due to this failure, Bishwajit suffered huge financial loss and the capital he earned as an actor was wasted. After this huge loss, he again entered the world of acting, but time did not give him a second chance.
