Disney Plus’ latest four-episode K-drama thriller, The Tyrant, begins its dark journey on August 14. Kim Seon Ho finally returns to the small screen for the first time since making his big screen debut with The Child in 2023. Fans of the beloved South Korean star are in luck from 2024 to 2025, as he will be appearing in quite a few projects in the near future.
The spy thriller, which also stars Cha Seung Won, Kim Kang Woo, and Jo Eun Soo, was directed by Park Hoon Jung, director of Choi Woo Sik-starrer The Witch. Similar to the narrative approach of the film, the K-drama also follows a similar approach, and it has already made its way into the top 5 rankings of the weekly buzzworthy K-drama chart curated by Good Data Corporation.
As per the August 20 update announcing the chart rankings for the third week of August, The Tyrant debuted at #5 in the TV-OTT category with a 7.71% buzz-worthiness score.

Love Next Door and its cast next on banners
However, the biggest winner this week was tvN’s Love Next Door (streaming on Netflix). The romantic comedy starring Jung Hae In and Jung So Min made it onto the list ahead of its official premiere last week and has now climbed up a few ranks, almost securing the ultimate win. Although SBS’s Good Partner topped both the TV-OTT and TV categories, the tvN drama had significant success, climbing up three ranks to the #2 spot.
In addition, the series’ lead couple, Jung So Min and Jung Hae In, dominated the drama cast discussion at #1 and #2 respectively. It is also trending on Netflix. The streamer’s global top 10 ranking for non-English TV titles gave it a warm welcome at #5. In its first week on the chart (August 12-18), the drama garnered 1.1 million views, with 2,700,000 hours watched.
Their network mates, Chae Jong-hyeop and Kim So Hyun of Embrace of Serendipity, dropped to fourth and fifth place after topping the list last week. However, one cannot ignore their impact considering that the series has already ended on August 13, yet they have not dropped out of the charts.

With teasers and previews coming out regularly, tvN’s No Gain No Love starring Shin Min A and Kim Young Dae has also reached the top 10 rank in the TV (Drama) category well ahead of its premiere on August 26.

The star-studded Perfect Family K-drama also rose to 7th place in the TV category and 8th on TV-OTT after its first airing on KBS2 on August 14.
