Admitting that he was initially confused by the suggestion, Keanu Reeves talked about brainstorming a new stage name.
Actor Keanu Reeves’ identity once almost changed because of his manager. In a recent podcast, the John Wick star revealed how he briefly changed his real name early in his career.
“I was a professional actor around 16, 17 years old. I did a movie in Toronto, which got me an agent in L.A. So, at 20, I drove to Los Angeles, got out of my car, and my manager said, ‘We want to change your name,'” he shared, as quoted by E! news.
Admitting that he was initially confused by the suggestion, Keanu talked about brainstorming a new platform name. “I remember walking on the beach and I said, ‘My name? What if I change my name?’ My middle name is Charles, so I’m like ‘Chuck?’ And I grew up on a street called Spadina – ‘Chuck Spadina?’ Then I was like, ‘Some Templeton.’ But then I became ‘Casey Reeves,'” the actor recalled.
Even though Keanu Reeves adopted the new name for his first film, he dropped it after a few months. “I couldn’t do it. So then I’d be at the audition and they’d go, ‘Casey Reeves.’ And I won’t even answer. After six months, I was like, ‘I’m not doing this.’ It’s a Hollywood moment,” he told the outlet.
According to Variety, Keanu Reeves was credited as “Casey Reeves” for one of his first films – a 1986 made-for-TV movie.
On the work front, Keanu will next be seen in the upcoming comedy, Good Fortune. Directed by Aziz Ansari, the film tells the story of a guardian angel who loses his wings while teaching life lessons to a human being. The film is releasing on Friday.
