Bengaluru, 27 April (PTI) ISRO President V Narayanan, Dr. Kasturirangan is remembered as a transformative person of the nation, who deeply shaped India’s space ambitions, educational structure, and showed vision for the future.
In his condolence message, he said, he has left a permanent heritage, marked by an unwavering discovery of Kasturrangan, an unwavering discovery of knowledge and its application for the upcoming nation. The former ISRO chief’s Kasturrangan, who had been at the top of the space agency for almost a decade, died on Friday in Bengaluru at the age of 84.
His mortal remains were put ahead of the funeral with full state honor, to pay their final honors to the public on Sunday at the Raman Research Institute (RRI).
“In the Indian tradition, it is believed that the seeds sown by great individuals bloom in powerful trees, offer shadows and livelihoods for future generations, leading to a rich ecosystem and inheritance below the line.
He said that his indomitable spirit, unwavering determination and an tireless discovery of excellence is characteristic, will continue to activate future scientific efforts in the country, he said.
He said, “Let us respect this great inspiration, which is through its honest, tireless and selfless hard work for the creation of a strong and more rich India.”
Recalling that during the tenure of Kasturrangan at the ISRO Satellite Center (now Ur Rao Satellite Center), he was the project director for India’s first two practical Earth observation satellites, Bhaskar-I & II, Chairman said, a historical contribution of him was the expansion of the distant sensitizing (Indian distance sensing) program of India.
He said satellites like IRS -1 C and IRS -1D launched during their tenure, providing high -resolution data for use in agriculture, forestry, water resources and urban planning. His vision helped to bridge the gap between advanced technology and development, showing how space science can directly benefit the general public.
Narayanan said that Kasturrangan was the Chairman of ISRO and Secretary of the Department of Space from 1994 to 2003, and this era saw significant progress and several major missions under his practical guidance.
He said that the Indian National Satellite (INSAT) for communication and meteorology, and Earth observation was led by successful development and launch of a white satellite series like IRS. He said that during a successful operation of PSLV in the space program and during his leadership during the flying test of GSLV, he said.
In particular, India’s first lunar mission, Chandrayaan -1, was conceived during his leadership, providing the nation’s establishment and invaluable scientific insight into the lunar exploration.
As an astronomer physicist, Dr. The interest of Kasturrangan involves research in high-energy X-rays and gamma-ray astronomy as well as optical astronomy. He actively supported the development and attainment of the multi-wavelend Astronomy Mission, AstroSet and started, from the beginning, he highlighted.
Stating that Kasturirannan, headed by the committee responsible for forming the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, is a decisive policy aimed at bringing a revolution in India’s education system, the condolence message also said that he made an important contribution to environmental protection through his role as the chairman of a high -level group at the Western Ghats, which is popular as Kasturiranagan.
The influence of Kasturarangan progressed far beyond space and education. He worked in important positions like Planning Commission members, members of Rajya Sabha from 2003–2009 and Chairman of Karnataka Gyan Commission.
His dedication and achievements received him many prestigious awards including Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhan, as well as his scientific and technical contribution, Narayanan said that these praise underlines his intense influence on India and the world.
