The much-awaited second season of The Great Indian Kapil Show started recently, but its premiere episode failed to garner the same number of viewers as its first season opener. While the first season of the show had Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni making a splash, the recent premiere saw Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar, Vedang Raina and Vasan Bala joining in to promote their upcoming film Zirgra. Despite the star-studded lineup, the episode’s viewership was below expectations, attracting only half the audience of Ranbir’s Season 1 premiere.

The Great Indian Kapil Show returns with a second season on September 22. According to Netflix’s Global Top 10 list, the comedian Kapil Sharma-led show ranked eighth in the non-English TV list last week with 1.2 million views and 1.4 million viewing hours.
Looking back, the first season started with an episode with Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni. This episode brought Sunil Grover back to the team. It garnered 2.5 million viewers and ranked at global rank 3 in the top 10 list.
Despite a great start, The Great Indian Kapil Show saw a decline in viewership during the first season. After a successful premiere, the show’s ratings declined.
In the second week, the show slipped to the fifth position and by the third week it fell to the seventh position with just 1.7 million views, despite the cast of Diljit Dosanjh’s Amar Singh Chamkila also featuring. Throughout the season, the show featured many celebrities, including Vicky Kaushal and Sunny Kaushal, Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, Ed Sheeran, Anil Kapoor and Farah Khan, Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, Sania Mirza and the entire cast of Mary Kom and Heeramandi.
However, even this star-studded lineup failed to halt the show’s decline.
About season two
The second episode of the second season of the show will feature the team of Devraa Part 1, Jr NTR, Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor. As per the promo, it is going to be a fun ride. The actors of the film will be seen dancing on stage and entertaining the audience. In one of the clips, Kapil Sharma is seen asking Jr NTR to name his favourite heroine from North India. Without a second thought, he reveals that it is Janhvi Kapoor’s mother and late actress Sridevi. Saif Ali Khan joked, “No, Sridevi is my answer to South.”
