Congress leader and NSUI National in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar, Purnia’s independent MP Pappu Yadav, was allegedly blocked by security personnel from Rahul Gandhi’s van during protests on Wednesday, July 9. Protests were held against the election roll amendment in Pol-Bound Bihar.
Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashvi Yadav were addressing the gathering after this incident, a video of which is now being shared on social media. In the video, Kanhaiya Kumar and Pappu Yadav tried to climb the van, but were being stopped by the security guards.
Surrounded by a crowd, Pappu Yadav was seen stumbling and lost his balance while trying to climb the van. He later said he fell down and hurt his leg but dismissed the reports that it was an insult to him.
Talking with news agency Annie after the protest, Pappu Yadav said, “I fell down and hurt. A leader of each party was present there, but it is not an insult. Who sees it that it depends on them …
The rally was part of the protest of the India block against the Election Commission’s decision to make a special intensive amendment of the electoral rolls in Bihar ahead of the state assembly elections.
Speaking at the Bihar bandh rally, Rahul Gandhi said, “The way votes were stolen in Maharashtra elections, similar efforts are being made in Bihar.”
Rahul Gandhi also questioned the increase in voter numbers between Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Maharashtra, alleging that all the newly coupled votes went to the BJP.
