BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has convicted Pakistan for drug threat in Himachal Pradesh and called for serious action against it. She was reacting to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla’s “Udta Punjab” comment.
Speaking to the media on the occasion of the monsoon session of Parliament on Friday, Mandi MP said, “Through Punjab, the drug coming from Pakistan to Himachal Pradesh is affecting youth and families in the state …”
The actor compared the drug situation in Himachal to Punjab and said, “The status of drugs in Himachal is so serious that if a strict action is not initiated soon, the state will become like the Punjab villages that now have only windows and women.”
Ranaut called Himachali children very “Bhola, Bhola and Saral”, and said that they are now protesting for theft; they have sold their parents’ jewelery, stealing cars “for drugs.
“Parents come to us crying. (Children) lock themselves in rooms, break furniture, scream, and cry for help. This (drugs) is worse than death for them,” he said.
“Udta Punjab in five years, if …”: Himachal Governor
On Thursday, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla warned that if immediate action is not taken to erase the drug mens, Himachal Pradesh will become “Udta Punjab” in the next five years.
Shukla said that cases of intoxicating drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPs) increased by about 500 to 340 percent in 2102, in 2023, by about 2200, and expressed concern over the “growing” threat to the intake of intoxicants in the state.
Talking about his campaign against drugs, Shukla said, “This is not just a campaign, but a mission to protect our future generations and preserve the social taunts of our communities.”
He also expressed displeasure over the “shortage of government rehabilitation centers” in the state, and emphasized immediate need for the state government for the establishment of a new state-of-the-art de-addition and rehabilitation center.
