Gege Akutami has revealed detailed information about the popular Jujutsu Kaisen character, Satoru Gojo, in an exhibition. JJK fan account @Go_Jover recently shared all 33 questions answered by the 32-year-old Japanese illustrator in a long thread on X (formerly Twitter). In this article, we will explore Akutami’s revelations about Gojo.
Biography of Gojo
In the first set of questions, Akutami explained Gojo’s early life and history, starting with his birthplace in Kyoto, where his clan’s main house is located. When asked if Gojo sometimes spoke in his local dialect, Akutami said, “Probably not,” adding that “either as a child he was taken on missions as part of the big three clans’ ‘elite jujutsu sorcerer training’ or he moved to Tokyo at a young age.”
Akutami explained that it was Gojo’s wish, not his parents’, that he wanted to pursue Jujutsu because “he was fed up with his overbearing family.” The mangaka further stated that both of his parents are alive and “have gained high status in the Gojo clan by giving birth to Gojo Satoru, but they are not particularly strong as Jujutsu sorcerers, so they were separated from Gojo at a young age.”
He explained that this was because his parents could not interfere with his education as a magician. Gojo is an only child but has many relatives as he was born into one of the three major clans. However, he never had “normal relations” with any of them as he constantly received special treatment from everyone around him.
Gojo’s training as a magician in Jujutsu Tech
The interviewer then asked, “In Chapter 96, Ogami and the others saw a child named Gojo wandering around town alone. What was he doing in the middle of town?” “He ran away from his home and was just wandering around,” Akutami replied, explaining that before his training, he “used to have a lot of fun.”
In addition, Gojo had experience “fighting and exorcising curses” before joining Jujutsu Tech. Despite students at Jujutsu Tech being allowed to modify their uniforms based on their likes and preferences, Gojo has never actually made any changes. Akutami revealed, “Gojo’s uniform is quite plain and he hasn’t customized it much.”
“Did he have a master in jujutsu?” In response, Akutami revealed that “the basics of jujutsu were perfected within the Gojo family as he likely had a master there.” “As for his technique, he had to work hard on his own based on the surviving records of it.”
The next question is how much Gojo charges per mission and what his total personal wealth is. Akutami explained that as a shaman, he receives a monthly salary, adding that his status as a special grade shaman means he “probably earns a salary comparable to that of a minister.” Since Gojo is the head of his family, he has “considerable wealth.” So, in short, “Gojo is rich.”
Gojo’s personality, likes and dislikes
When asked if Gojo had any complications, Akutami said, “Probably not. If I had to say, he would probably be unable to stop Geto.” The Jujutsu Kaisen producer revealed that at the time of Itadori’s death, Gojo was “angry”, before adding that “But I think there’s also a part of him that has dedicated himself to the death of his comrades.”
The second part of the questions revolved around Gojo’s likes and dislikes and what he is like as a person. According to Akutami, he doesn’t really have any particular hobbies or experiences that make him happy. “I can’t really imagine it but he’s probably happy when he meets someone with talent as a Jujutsu Sorcerer,” he said.
Besides Japanese, Gojo is not fluent in any other language. However, Akutami said he “can probably speak a little English.” Whenever Gojo drinks too much, “he immediately passes out.” But most of all, “his whistling output” is seriously affected or, in Akutami’s words, “starts to get boring.”
The JJK producer also revealed that it is very difficult for Gojo to have a driving license. “But even if he has one, he will probably pass the test and become a paper driver,” he explained. Surprisingly, Akutami feels that both Gojo’s greatest strength and weakness is “his personality.”
Does Gojo cook? Akutami said, “It’s not that he can’t cook, but he doesn’t do it often.” He also said that Gojo likes the beach more than the mountains, dogs more than cats, bread more than rice, and that he is right-handed.
