The action sequences in RRR are some of the most memorable scenes in the careers of SS Rajamouli, Jr NTR and Ram Charan. Cinematographer KK Senthil spoke to Film Companion and decoded some iconic scenes from the film. (Also Read: War 2: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR are seen in action in new leaked pictures)
‘Junior NTR is a national level badminton player’
In one scene, Jr. NTR encounters a tiger, but not before it runs away from him. Before that, a fox and a wolf had also chased him. Senthil revealed that Jr NTR ran so fast that he was shocked. Turns out, the actor used to play badminton at the state and national level in his teenage years. He also said that it was challenging to match their fitness levels.
In another iconic scene, Jr. NTR jumps out of a van with several wild animals captured to attack the British. This is the first time that he will also face Ram Charan’s character. “Because of his (Junior NTR) legacy, the interludes in his films are sometimes better than the climax. We shot this sequence over several nights. There were thousands of people in this scene which had to be made to look like animals were attacking them. Our VFX supervisor suggested we use motorized cars with animal faces, which helped,” he explained.

‘Ram Charan was frightened’
In another iconic sequence, Ram’s character beats up several Indians who are protesting against the British. He goes out alone into a sea of people with his sticks, hitting and getting beaten, but persevering until he gets them under control. Senthil revealed that Ram was afraid of doing the scene because he did not know how the audience would accept the beating of several Indians by one Indian.
He said, “There is a sequence in Magadheera where he fights with 100 people; Now he needed to do something big. Based on that idea we made it 2000 people. Being an Indian, Charan was very apprehensive about fighting with his fellow Indians, but Rajamouli convinced him about his character. We started with 3 months of rehearsals to figure out how to do it. We had a bunch of actors who were fighters, junior fighters, actors who were able to fight, and more. The biggest challenge was to make the audience feel like they were part of the chaos. Charan has a meditative expression in this scene; We worked hard to capture that expression just right.
upcoming work
Jr NTR is currently shooting for War 2 with Hrithik Roshan. He is also working on Devara with Koratala Siva and Janhvi Kapoor. Ram Charan is shooting for Game Changer with Shankar and Kiara Advani. He will soon be seen in Bucchi Babu Sana’s film with Janhvi.
