Laying the groundwork for an original story inspired by his past love life, the John Wick prequel anime has officially entered the development phase.
Action thriller series co-creator Chad Stahelski, who previously worked as a stunt double for his future John Wick star Reeves as the other Neo in The Matrix franchise, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that three new projects are on the horizon. Are on. The retired killer’s journey began on the big screen a decade ago when he had to come out of retirement to avenge the murder of his beloved dog, a gift from his recently deceased wife. Further expanding the bloody world established around the legendary assassin’s violent career, the John Wick team is developing an anime feature, a TV show, and another new spinoff, Donnie Yen’s Kane. With all the projects working simultaneously in the background, anime fans will likely be more attracted to one of these than the others.
Is there a confirmed John Wick anime release date?
“We are engaged in development of a feature anime about John Wick,” Stahelski told the US-based entertainment outlet. Therefore, the project is in its early stages of production. The release date has not been decided yet.
What to expect from the John Wick anime movie?
Stahelski described the anime feature film, which is currently in the works, as a prequel to the original John Wick films. She is very excited to experiment with a different medium while expanding the character’s story and backstory.

The upcoming project will delve deeper into the million-dollar question of the “impossible task” that ultimately led Vic to retire from his Hitman roots and transition to married life. The anime medium additionally provides more leeway for creatives to go crazy and unleash explosive scenes set in an already action-packed saga.
“We can be a little more wild and crazy in the anime, and we can be a lot more explicit in our storytelling and world building in the TV show. So they’re exciting to us without being repetitive, and that’s where we’re putting our energy right now,” Stahelski explained.
