The arrest of the Assam Congress spokesperson Ritam Singh by the Guwahati police has made a heated exchange between the Congress general secretary, in-charge of Sanchar Jeram Ramesh and Assam Chief Minister Himant Biswa Sarma.
In a post on X, Ramesh called the Chief Minister of Assam “worse than atrocities” on the arrest of Retam Singh for a social media post. Ramesh tagged the Assam CM and said that Singh’s controversial post was “completely appropriate”.
Congress General Secretary, Charge Communications Jeram Ramesh said on X, “The arrest of my young colleague Rartam Singh for a complete proper social media posts is worse than the tyrannical, Mr. Chief Minister.”
The Assam CM questioned the Congress party’s stance and accused Ramesh of justifying the aggressive remarks against the husband of a Dalit woman. He also warned of a imminent “big revelation” connecting ISI and a ‘senior Congress leader’ from Pakistan.
“Sir, the case is related to a caste-based insult directed on a Dalit woman. If you justify a rapist of a Dalit woman as a ‘completely appropriate’ social media post, it speaks about the direction in which you have taken people to the Congress party.
‘Gaurav Gogoi’s link George Soros’
The Chief Minister probably mentioned his earlier allegations, which connects the Member of Parliament of the Congress to Assam, Gaurav Gogoi and his British wife Elizabeth Kobrane to Pakistan and George Soros’s Open Society.
Ramesh was in a hurry to react to Sarma’s response, called him a “outgoing CM” and accused him of using the police for political vengeance. Ramesh wrote, “Mr. Outgoing CM, stop removing from the real issue – which is individually abused and abused by personally police powers to favor your colleagues and fix your opponents.”

On 15 March, Ritam Singh was arrested for a social media post, which included the status of registered cases against three senior BJP leaders, including a former state head and two serving MLAs. A team of Lakhimpur District Police, aided by the Guwahati police, arrested him from his house in Guwahati.
Singh posted a post on X on 13 March, with a news report about three persons convicted by a court for rape case in Dhamaji district in 2021.
