Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s relationship was no fairy tale, even though they were married. When the former couple rekindled their spark and eventually got married despite all odds, many rejoiced, but it wasn’t destined to happen. As fate would have it, the Jersey Girl costars’ tangled love story eventually turned into a divorce after two years of marriage, and it was JLo who took a stand.
Earlier this week, the “Jenny on the Block” singer filed for divorce from the air director, blaming irreconcilable differences for their failed marriage. She did the deed herself, stating April 26 as their separation date. Now that the two have parted ways after months of turmoil with an unfortunate but predictable ending, her friends have spoken out again about why it all happened. According to their statements, JLo cannot be blamed.
What are Jennifer Lopez’s friends saying now after her divorce from Ben Affleck?
A friend of the singer told PageSix, “She loves him, she will always love him, that’s the problem.” She insisted that the Marry Me star did her best to save the sinking ship despite being separated from Ben for months. It seems that Lopez has now moved on from that chapter of her life, as she also insisted on removing “Affleck” from her last name.
As far as a Hollywood source goes, Jen “truly believed this was the best love story ever, and that she was finally getting her chance at the fairy tale.” The Gigli costars’ 2022 wedding has been planned for two decades, as they reunited 20 years after breaking off their first engagement in the early 2000s. “She never really stopped to think about who the real man was [in] Fairy tale,” the source said of Affleck.
The insider even said that the kind of “big love that Jennifer believes in” is “not [Ben’s] DNA.”

Ben Affleck’s ‘darkness’ becomes a hot topic
He added, “There’s a darkness in Ben that no other person can fix. Jen Garner couldn’t fix that; all the success in the world couldn’t fix that.”
According to the person’s side of the story, the “On the Floor” icon gave the relationship “her all; her whole heart.” She was “willing to do anything to make it work.” Despite being told by “countless critics” that “it was a bad idea, that it was doomed, that there was a reason it didn’t work the first time,” Lopez “didn’t want to believe it — she truly believed that love would conquer everything,” the source said.
As everyone knows, Ben and Jen first met in 2002 while filming their movie Gigli. At the time, Lopez was married to Cris Judd, who was her second husband. After the divorce, she tried her luck at love with Affleck, and they made their vows public. The following year, they were set to get married on September 14, 2003, but things fell apart in the days before the D-day. They first postponed the ceremony, and four months later, they split.
The statement shared by Lopez’s friend about Ben’s “darkness” in a way mirrors what Jennifer Garner said after her marital breakup with Affleck in 2018. “He’s just a complicated person,” the 13 Going on 30 actress told Vanity Fair. “I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”
Ben Affleck ‘can’t give himself over completely to another person’
Furthermore, the Hollywood insider claimed that Ben “has no problem with this side of him.” What “side” is this? “The side that needs solitude, that doesn’t believe anyone can ever truly understand him, that believes she is his only ally and the only person he can trust.”
The source dug deeper and said that although Affleck acted with “the kind of all-consuming devotion” that Lopez believes in, “it’s not who he is.”
Even though he is “proud to be the protector and provider of his children … he has never — and it appears he never will — give himself over completely to another person.”

The shocking thing about Jennifer Lopez’s documentary: She didn’t want to do it
If fans recall, Lopez released several projects earlier this year with her personal expressions about love, and she eventually received criticism for all of them. However, now, sources have told Page Six that one of these projects – namely the documentary “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” and her other film “This Is Me… Now”, which was released as a packaged combo with her first studio album in 10 years “This Is Me… Now” – was actually pitched by Ben Affleck’s company Artist Equity. JLo reportedly did not want to pursue the documentary as she had her hands busy with her album and Amazon Originals project. The documentary was reportedly financed and produced by The Accountant actor’s production banner.
In the aforementioned documentary, Jane Fonda expressed her concern for Lopez. Although she claimed she is very “invested” in her and Affleck’s relationship and wants their second go-round to work, she expressed unrepentant distrust of the “First Love” singer. “Like, it seems like you’re trying to prove something instead of just living. You know, every other picture shows you two kissing and hugging.”
Each page of the book seems to sing a new song. A separate source who has known the singer for decades said that Lopez was “thirsty for attention” and despite having a good soul, “she wasted everything trying to be ‘J.Lo.'” The same person also believed that Affleck was truly in love with her.
However, Jen’s longtime manager Benny Medina had something to say to the actor-producer. Claiming that “Benny has a stranglehold on Jennifer’s life,” Medina strongly hoped that the “Dance Again” singer takes charge of her own life and “stops letting others do things for her.”
Additionally, making a sarcastic comment about Ben Affleck’s acting, the initial insider said that although the actor “thought he could get along … people don’t work that way for long.” The Batman star “feels bad for the pain” and it seems like Lopez knows “he gave his all, not only for her but for her kids as well.”
In the next few days when this latest insider tip comes out, another one might come out. This has been the case for the past few months, ever since this conversation first started fueling rumors about a Bennifer 2.0 divorce. It doesn’t look like it’s going to die down anytime soon.
