The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main 2024) Shift 2 on April 4 was conducted from 3 pm to 6 pm at various examination centers across the country.
According to Ajay Kumar Sharma, National Academic Director, Engineering, Aakash Educational Services Limited, the paper of evening shift (Shift-2) was of easy to moderate level.
“In this paper, Physics was at easy to moderate level while Chemistry was the easiest among the three. Maths was not that difficult but a bit lengthy,” says Ajay.

“The paper was largely based on NCERT books. There was almost equal distribution of all three parts of chemistry i.e. physical, organic and inorganic. The questions were mainly direct. Questions were asked from major chapters like Equilibrium, Bonding, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics and Alkyl and Aryl Halides. The overall coverage of chapters was uniform,” said National Academic Director, Engineering, Aakash Educational Services Ltd.
“Easy to moderate. Inorganic and organic chemistry were more important than physical chemistry. Questions were asked from GOC, Alcohols, Ethers and Phenols, Amines, Aldehydes and Ketones, Biomolecules, Aryl and Alkyl Halides Mixed Concept Questions, Atomic Structure, Thermodynamics, Electrochemistry and Chemical Equilibrium in Physical Chemistry. In Inorganic Chemistry there were questions from d and f-block elements, coordination compounds and chemical bonding. Some fact-based questions from NCERT were asked which made it easier for the students,” said Ramesh Batlish, Head-FITJI Noida Centres.
physics analysis
According to Ajay Kumar Sharma, the Physics part in the exam was of easy to moderate level and the questions were mostly straightforward.
“Most of the questions were asked from Class 12 syllabus. If one has studied PYQ from previous year papers, one will definitely have an upper hand in the paper,” he said.
math analysis
“The Mathematics paper was moderate to difficult, just like the Shift-1 paper. Questions from Algebra and Calculus were prominent in the paper. A large number of questions were asked from Vector and 3D. The paper had questions from Binomial Theorem, Sequence and Series, Statistics. Almost all topics covered,” says Ajay.
Overall, according to Ajay Kumar Sharma, National Academic Director, Engineering, Aakash Educational Services Limited, the Shift 2 paper was a balanced paper which could be solved in the given time. Most of the students found mathematics a little long. The order of difficulty level according to a large section of students is Mathematics > Physics > Chemistry.
“There were a total of 30* questions in Mathematics – Part-I had 20 multiple choice questions with single correct answers and Part-II had 10 numerical based questions, of which only 5 were to be attempted. The marking scheme for multiple choice questions was +4 for correct answer, -1 for wrong answer, 0 for no attempt. The marking scheme for numerical based questions was +4 for correct answer, -1 for wrong answer and 0 in all other cases. The total marks for this section were 100,” said Ramesh Batlish.
