Goma. The death toll in an attack on a Catholic church in Eastern Congo by the Islamic State -backed rebels has increased to 40. A leader of the civil institution gave this information. “The bodies are still on the spot,” the civic organization coordinator in Komanda, its province told ‘Associated Press’, “The bodies are still on the spot, and the volunteers are preparing to bury them in the collective grave, which we are preparing in the premises of the Catholic Church.”

Earlier, at least five other people were killed in the attack on nearby village Machongani. The attack was carried out at around one o’clock in the Catholic Church complex in Komanda, Eastern Congo. It is believed that both the attacks have been carried out by members of the ‘Allied Democratic Force’ (ADF).

A spokesperson of the Congo Army in Ituri province located in Komanda has confirmed the death of 10 people. The number of dead in local media reports has been stated to be more than 40. DRC Army spokesman Lieutenant Jules Agongo confirmed 10 people killed in an attack on the church.

ADF is a rebellious group, which is related to the Islamic State. It is active in the border region between Uganda and Congo, and has regularly attacking the civilian population.
