Train -making companies say that their old models were made for only 101 per cent of ethanols and 20 per cent of ethanol can harm the engine, gasket and fuel system of the car. Many companies have even said that the loss due to petrol received 20 percent ethanol will not be covered under warranty. There are some new models in which ethanol-resistant parts and advanced engine software are installed, but most of India’s vehicles are still not ready for this change.
Talking about real grassroots experiences, customers using petrol getting 20 percent ethanol are constantly complaining. These complaints include a decline in mileage, engine rackets, slow pickups, and a bad effect on the general performance of the vehicle. The surprising thing is also that it is not clearly written on many pumps which petrol is E10 and which E20. In such a situation, people are filling E20 in their vehicles without knowing and then inadvertently suffering losses.
Improvement in vehicles is necessary for petrol with 20 % ethanol
Experts say that technical changes in the vehicle are necessary to use the E20, such as anti-crocodile coatings, engine remappiness and ethanol-cooperative fuel system. Otherwise, along with reducing mileage, the safety of the vehicle can also become a threat. Another problem of ethanol is that it draws moisture from the air, which increases the risk of rust in the fuel tank and the plastic and rubber parts of the vehicle start deteriorating rapidly.
