The internet says Alia’s open letter to the public regarding speculations about her alleged involvement in cosmetic procedures has failed to make the desired impact.
And this is a hat-trick.
Alia Bhatt’s highly celebrated career has had very few bumps in the road. While this is certainly a dream for any deserving actor, the low number of box office failures for one of the biggest names in Bollywood comes with its troubles. The film starring Alia flopped twice at the box office. The first was Vikas Bahl’s Shahid Kapoor-starrer. Shaandaar (2015). The second one was of Abhishek Verman Kalank (2019). The third title to be included in this list is now Vasan Bala. JigraMarketed almost exclusively on Alia’s star power. Sadly, there were only a few who had no takers.
Coming back to the recent events, Alia took to her Instagram handle this morning to write a massive four-part open letter to the public about their endless speculations over her allegedly changed appearance over the years. It has been told. However she made it clear that she has nothing against the concept of using cosmetic procedures to enhance one’s physical beauty, with a positive stance on a part of her face reportedly due to the procedures she chose to do. Baseless claims are being made in the form of “scientific” rebuttals. Reportedly being paralyzed – which she has denied in no uncertain terms – she bore the brunt of Alia’s virtual anger. Now, while this could have sparked an important conversation about the inaccessible standards of beauty for women, especially public figures, its timing struck many as odd.
While it certainly hurts the point the actor was trying to make, the internet can’t understand why she would choose to address the issue months, even years later, especially at a time like this When everyone is talking about whether his film is flopping at the box office. A distraction tactic? This is what people are saying.
Comments like: “This movie is failing”, “Now that Jigra has flopped, the girl will do anything to divert people’s attention. This is old news, no one cares” , “Good job in removing people from Jigra”, “This is a distraction! Now everyone and their aunties will talk about this instead of Jigra!” And “Someone is trying to divert attention from the fact that Jigra has flopped! I would have liked an equally detailed statement on the failure of Jigra instead of just seeing Vasan make a statement on the failure of Jigra.”
Some comments specifically point to the odd timing of the outburst: “There are so many things she could have addressed in the present and in the past and she’s upset about it. Yes, speculating is bad but this was months ago Talked to: / “Absolutely nothing about that. Right now everyone is talking about him and the whole KJo thing. It’s true, but only when people are talking about it. Now it’s just an attempt to divert attention.”
What are your thoughts on Alia’s anger?
