- Better blood sugar control: Individuals with insulin resistance, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes may benefit from such a diet as it helps control blood sugar levels. Indian food mainly consists of grains like rice and wheat. When we eliminate or reduce these elements in the diet, it can help control blood sugar levels.
- Increased Satiety: People start consuming high protein and healthy fats in low carb diets. These options are more filling and can help control cravings which in turn prevents us from overeating and then gaining weight – a vicious cycle.
- High Energy Level: Individuals may have better mental clarity and sustained energy on a low-carb diet. It has been observed that the body becomes more efficient at using fat for fuel.
- Improves Triglyceride Levels: Low-carb diets are linked to decreased triglyceride levels, which is beneficial for heart health.
- Reduction in swelling: Some low-carb diets emphasize whole, unprocessed foods. These diets may contribute to reducing inflammation in the body.
- Better blood pressure: Some studies suggest that low-carb diets may improve blood pressure, an important factor for heart health.
- Better HDL Cholesterol: Although the effects may vary, some individuals experience an increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, often referred to as ‘good’ cholesterol.
Deepak Pal said, “Although there are many benefits of a low-carb diet, it is always advisable to adopt any new diet with caution. Individual needs, goals, and temperament should be considered before embarking on a dietary journey. The feasibility of cooking low-carb meals (for working professionals, those with families who have other priorities, etc.) should also be considered. The services of a professional dietitian are also indispensable when designing a new meal plan with specific needs.
