Guru Gobind Singh IPU will introduce a special orphan quota.
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IPU) has decided to introduce a special quota for orphans in its various programs, which adds a single girl child quota implemented last year.
The academic council of the university has approved this new quota, which will be effective from the 2025-26 academic session. Under the scheme, an additional seat will be reserved in each of the university’s school and especially orphan students in programs. Those recruited under this quota will also get a complete fee exemption under the University’s EWS (Economically Weaker Section) Scheme, as reported by the news agency PTI.
Vice Chancellor of IPU Padma Shri Professor (DR) Mahesh Verma said that the university is committed to providing access to quality education for all, including orphaned children, who have lost their parents due to Kovid -19 epidemic or other conditions.
The university has also planned to help these students by helping these students to secure financial assistance through various government welfare schemes. With the move, IP University will be one of the first universities in India to implement such quota. Detailed guidelines and eligibility criteria will soon be published on the official website of the university.
During the Academic Council meeting, several other educational changes and additions were also discussed. In these, a dedicated PhD program for working professionals is the beginning, allowing them to continue their career and pursue the research degree. The council has also approved the lateral entry for fire and industrial safety in the MBA program, which provides more flexibility for candidates with relevant qualifications.
In addition, the university has planned to expand its foreign language offerings by adding certificates courses in Spanish and other widely spoken international languages. The new educational programs will include a five-year integrated BA-MA course in philosophy and a four-year bed special education programs in three additional subjects. The post -MSc diploma in Radiological Physics will also be introduced to meet the increasing demand in the healthcare sector.

To further promote Indian heritage and innovation, the university will establish a “in-Seitu Center for Indian Knowledge System and Technology Innovation”, which will focus on preserving and promoting India’s traditional knowledge systems and technological progress.
Meanwhile, the Narela campus of IP University will soon be operational with new programs such as MSc in Microbiology and with diploma courses, connecting the university expansion educational infrastructure.
