One might not expect an established actor to go back to school and live a student life, but Harshvardhan Rane never liked following rules. “My biggest strength is that I don’t have a ‘log’ of ‘log kya kahenge’ in my life,” says the actor, who chose to resume his education by enrolling in a psychology honors course and passed his first-year exams. “I shared my result with my teacher and some friends and they all were very proud of me. Someone very close to me said that if my father were alive today, he would be very proud. I hope this score will improve even more next year, and to celebrate, I will do a little dance at home,” he said, adding that going back to student life has brought him back to reality. “When I was giving my exam, the paper was taken away from me within two hours. Since I was wearing a mask, the invigilator didn’t know who I was, and we only had our roll numbers, not names. So, the first day it happened, I was in shock because as an actor, you are used to special treatment. It gave me another perspective on life,” he shares.
On International Students Day, Harshvardhan Rane admitted to being a “student of life”. “I am a student of human behavior, and when I close my book, I am a student of movies; I am always learning. I was born a student, and I will leave as a student. I am either winning or learning in my life, nothing is a failure for me. I think what others consider a failure is a betrayal of the future,” he quipped.
Interestingly, Harshvardhan came across a video during his exams in which his seniors told him that even scoring 55% marks would be quite an impossible task. “I told him I was expecting around 70-80%, to which he laughed and said, ‘Forget it, it’s impossible’. He said that even scoring 55% marks is too high and the college fails many students. Now that I have my score, I’m enjoying that video more,” he says, adding that the incident made him realize something important: “People will always give you excuses as to why things can’t be done. . Even when I came into the industry, people said that an outsider like me would not get work. My lesson is that when people say things like that, don’t fight them, make them feel like they said something sensible, rather you just take a deep breath, smile and concentrate on your work.
