Some students of a prestigious government college in Indore allegedly created a fake letter about the “death” of their principal and circulated it on social media platforms to stall the examination, a police officer said on Thursday.

He said that a case has been registered against two college students for allegedly making a fake letter and circulating it on social media a few days ago.
Bhanwarkuan police station in-charge Rajkumar Yadav said that a case was registered on Wednesday night against two students of third semester of Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) based on the complaint of Dr Anamika Jain, Principal of Government Holkar Science College.
He said the FIR was lodged under section 336(4) of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) (knowingly making false document with intent to defame any person), which provides for imprisonment of up to three years and fine if found guilty.
According to the police officer, as part of an alleged conspiracy to stop online examinations and postpone classes for regular assessment of students, the two accused created a false letter claiming the “death” of the college principal and circulated it on social media on October 14.
A college official said the letter titled “Important Information” was created by copying the institute’s letterhead and added that due to the “sudden demise” of Principal Jain, online examinations scheduled for October 15-16 have been postponed and classes for all subjects have also been suspended.
When contacted, Jain told PTI, “I and my family are extremely distressed after this fake letter was circulated on social media. Many people even came to my house to express their condolences, considering the letter to be genuine.”
He said that to prevent such incidents in future, the police should take strict legal action against both the accused. Without naming anyone, the Principal alleged that some disgruntled elements in the college were harassing him through various malicious activities in an attempt to prevent him from performing his official duties.
