According to a PTI report, India’s first indigenously developed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner is to be set up for clinical trials at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.
The report stated that the machine to be installed in AIIMS-Delli for evaluation and clinical trials by October 2025 is expected to cut MRI costs for about 50 percent of patients.
In addition to reducing costs, indigenous machine aims to reduce India’s dependence on foreign imports and improve public access to MRI technology.

Director of AIIMS-Deley, Dr. M. According to Srinivas, currently, most healthcare equipment in India, such as important and post-operative care, ICU, MRI machines and robotics, are imported.
“Development of this indigenous MRI machine is a major step towards becoming a self -sufficient India to reduce dependence on foreign imported equipment. As we have the best use experience of global equipment, we can compare and provide feedback to the necessary reforms so that the machine is clinically proven to deploy in health facilities.
According to Ram Jaisunder, head of the atomic magnetic resonance department at AIIMS-DELHI, “MRI will significantly reduce the cost of scanning and dependence on the initiative imported machines.”

Both projects have received financial assistance from Matty to help India move towards import replacement.
