The India Alliance on Tuesday decided to approach the Supreme Court over the scam that perpetrated the BJP-led alliance’s victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
The decision was announced after a meeting here between NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal and well-known lawyer and Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi.
NCP (SP) Pune president Prashant Sudamrao Jagtap says, “In today’s meeting (at NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar’s residence), we decided to appear in the Supreme Court as Bharat Alliance in connection with the Maharashtra Assembly election scam. Have decided.” Make the BJP led alliance win… All parties of the Indian alliance in Maharashtra will go to court. We have faith in the Supreme Court and we hope that the Supreme Court will give a verdict in our favor and against the scam.
Pawar is meeting the leaders of his party who lost the assembly elections.
India Bloc has claimed that it lost the elections in Maharashtra due to alleged EVM manipulation in favor of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance.
In the elections held last month, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance won 235 seats in the 288-member House, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance got 46 seats.
During the meeting, Kejriwal highlighted concerns related to voter lists in Delhi, where assembly elections are due early next year.
Mahayuti government wins trust vote in Maharashtra Assembly
Five days after assuming power, the Mahayuti coalition government in Maharashtra led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday easily won the trust vote in the state assembly. The trust motion moved by Shiv Sena MLA Uday Samant and others was passed by voice vote on the last day of the three-day special assembly session. When the confidence motion was approved in the Assembly, some opposition members were absent. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray was also included among them.
Sources said that on December 4, when Governor CP Radhakrishnan handed over the letter inviting Fadnavis to form the government, he had said in the document that the BJP leader would have to clear the confidence motion in the House in 21 days. Earlier in the day, Speaker Rahul Narvekar, who was elected unopposed for a second consecutive term, announced that the newly constituted House had approved the confidence motion. The BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP ‘Mahayuti’ alliance has an overwhelming majority of 230 seats in the 288-member assembly, where the majority figure is 145. “The confidence motion has been passed with majority,” Narvekar said.
