The government has introduced two special categories of visas for international students who wish to pursue higher education in Indian educational institutions.
ministry of home affairs has launched e-Student Visa and ‘e-Student-X’ Visa for international students. All interested students will be required to access the ‘Study in India’ (SII) portal launched by the government. PTI The news has been given quoting officials.
The e-Student Visa is for eligible international students registered on the SII portal, while the e-Student-X Visa is for dependents of those holding an e-Student Visa.
Students can apply for visa separately on the portal or through https://Indianvisaonline.gov.in/, However authenticity of visa application will be checked by SII ID.
Therefore, students must compulsorily apply to Indian higher education institutions through the SII website. After receiving the admission letter from any SII partner institute, students can apply for the visa.
Officials said the visas will be issued to foreign students who wish to pursue regular, full-time courses in undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD and other programs in educational institutions recognized by India.
E-student visa will be given for up to five years. The visa can be extended depending on the duration of the course. Additionally, students with a valid e-student visa can enter India through any port immigration check post, the report said.
The Ministry of Education launched SII, a flagship project to provide higher education in India through 600 partner institutions offering over 8000 diverse courses in engineering and technology, management, agriculture, science, arts and humanities, language studies, commerce. These courses are offered at various levels such as undergraduate (Bachelor), postgraduate (Master), doctoral level (PhD) and certification-based courses.
The registration process on SII portal is easy, where students will go through online application process to get admission in various programs and processing of applications for admission.
International students who wish to study in India must have a unique student SII ID. This ID will help them access the dashboard and track the progress of college and course applications, visa/e-Visa and other highly related processes.
However, students should note that the SII ID is not an opportunity to study or come to India, the report quoted officials as saying.
