Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for tweeting BJP MP Anurag Thakur’s caste comment in Lok Sabha. He condemned PM Modi’s tweet and said, “PM Modi should know where to speak and whom to defend… except that, he is inciting emotions [aag lagane ki baatein kar rahe hai],
Anurag Thakur had made some remarks on Tuesday that were expunged from the Lok Sabha proceedings. His apparent reference to Rahul Gandhi’s caste during a debate had led to a huge uproar in the lower house.
Thakur’s remarks led to uproar in the Lok Sabha with opposition members demanding an apology from him for his remarks on Gandhi and adamant on their demand for caste census.
Later, PM Modi tweeted Thakur’s controversial statement on social media. He captioned the speech, “This speech by my young and energetic colleague Shri @ianuragthakur is a must listen. A perfect blend of facts and humour, exposing the dirty politics of the INDI alliance.”
Condemning the Prime Minister’s tweet, Kharge said, “He [Anurag Thakur] “It is immature, but did the Prime Minister need to tweet? Many of his leaders are doing inter-caste or inter-religious marriages. Will he ask everyone’s caste? This is wrong, I condemn it.”

Kharge said, “I also condemn the Prime Minister’s tweet. Prime Minister Modi should know where to speak and whom to defend… Apart from this, he is inciting sentiments. This should not be allowed in Parliament, it should be removed…”
Kharge told news agency ANI, “No one is asked about their caste in Parliament… He (Anurag Thakur) deliberately said this to insult him (Rahul Gandhi). This is not right. Many of their (BJP) senior leaders have done inter-caste marriages… He should look at himself in the mirror and then speak…”
The BJP on Wednesday criticised the Congress for raking up the caste row and said what was wrong in asking the caste of opposition leader Rahul Gandhi when he can ask about the caste of others, including government officials, judges and even journalists.
