Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years in jail on Wednesday in a land corruption case. Pakistan’s former prime minister and his wife Bushra Bibi have been convicted of accepting gifts of land from a real estate tycoon in exchange for black money while they were in power.
Prosecutors say the businessman, Malik Riaz, was allowed to pay a fine imposed on him by Khan in another case with the same laundered funds of 190 million British pounds ($240 million). It was returned to Pakistan for submission by British authorities in 2022. To the National Treasury.

Imran Khan has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment while his wife Bushra Bibi has been sentenced to seven years in the land corruption case. The former PM of Pakistan has been convicted of “corrupt conduct” and “abuse of power”, while his wife has been convicted of “indulging in illegal activities”.
PTI leader also fined 1 million while his wife was fined half a million rupees. In case of non-payment of fine, Khan will face additional imprisonment of six months and three months. The court also ordered the confiscation of the land of Al-Qadir University established by him.
What is the matter?
Khan was convicted on charges that he and his wife were gifted land in exchange for illegal benefits during his tenure as Prime Minister. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party says the land – worth up to Rs 7 billion – was donated for charitable purposes. The court, however, held that the land was gifted as a bribe by a real estate developer through a trust created in 2018.
This decision was given by Anti-Corruption Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana on Friday afternoon. The temporary court was convened in the premises of Aadila jail, where Khan is lodged since August 2023. His wife was arrested from the court after the sentencing.
