New Delhi [India]August 21 (ANI): Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy said on Thursday that important minerals are currently searching in Mizoram and Northeast states of Assam.
In an interview with ANI, the minister said that the government would consult with the northeastern states.
Accepting the presence of region-specific legal framework, Reddy said that the Center would consult with the northeastern states to find out the scope of extraction of important minerals in these states.
“Arunachal Pradesh has been brought to auction rule in the coal field for the first time … In Mizoram and Assam, also, there is an exploration on important minerals … There are different tasks in the Northeast, so we will talk with them and then try to mining after discussion,” the Union Minister told ANI.
Talking about the mines and minerals (development and regulation) amendment Bill 2025 passed by Reddy, Reddy said that the government is chasing the mining sector to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen domestic capacity.
The Union Minister said, “Bill of mines and minerals is a major improvement in the mining sector, especially in important minerals and coal. We are constantly bringing improvements. Six modifications were brought for further improvements. In the coming days, we are working to amend the entire MMDR (Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation). The airplanes are necessary in every field … they are required.”
Reddy said, “We are still dependent in abroad, but various countries have now created obstacles. Therefore, we are trying to bring to Aatamanirbharta in the region.”
According to the official data of the scientific agency, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) has launched 108 projects in the last five years, with 23 ongoing mineral exploration projects during the 2022-23 region in the northeastern region.
The GSI is implementing 1,200 exploration projects across the country from 2024-25 to 2030-31 with a view to strengthen domestic significant mineral discovery.
The Union Cabinet approved the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) on 29 January 2025, which was running from 2024–25 to 2030-31. It has an outlay 16,300 crores, with expected investment 18,000 crores from PSU and stakeholders.
The mission scope involves the complete significant mineral price chain: exploration, mining, profit, and processing to recovery from life products.
Recently, Reddy had said that the central government was actively encouraging private companies to bring back the needs of domestic industry abroad and bring them back to the country. (AI)
