Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) celebrated its 57th convocation, conferring degrees to 2,332 graduates in various disciplines.
According to a press release from IIT Kanpur, the event was held in two sessions, with the main inaugural ceremony being held at the majestic main auditorium of IITK. Professor Jayati Y Murthy, President of Oregon State University, USA and an IITK alumnus, was present as the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Mahesh Gupta, Chairman, Board of Governors (BOG), IIT Kanpur, and Professor Manindra Aggarwal, Director, IIT Kanpur, presided over the convocation.
IITK informed that the convocation was attended by 2,332 graduates from various disciplines, including 226 PhD recipients, 457 MTech recipients, 842 BTech recipients, 165 MSc (2-year) recipients, 36 MBA recipients, 12 MTech-PhD (Joint Degree) recipients, 1 MDS (Joint Degree) recipient, 17 MDS recipients, 77 MS (by Research) recipients, 40 PGPEX-VLFM recipients, 26 Double Major recipients, 89 Dual Degree recipients, 14 MS-PD (MS part of Dual Degree) recipients, 125 BS recipients and 205 eMasters Degree Programme recipients.

“The world will present you with competing stories about who you are and what you are worth. It is up to you to choose the story of your life and write your own story. Despite the challenges, I have seen my peers, especially women from IIT Kanpur, carve their own path and succeed despite obstacles. So, choose your story wisely. Remember, nothing is ever over. There is always a way forward. You have learned how to live. Now learn how to live. Live deeply, live passionately and live well,” said Professor Jayati Y Murthy.
Kunwar Preet Singh (Computer Science and Engineering) was awarded the prestigious President’s Gold Medal, Viplav Patel (Chemical Engineering-Electrical Engineering) and Sarthak Kohli (Computer Science and Engineering) received the Director’s Gold Medal for outstanding all-round achievement and leadership in the 5-year and 4-year undergraduate programmes respectively. The Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Medal for the best all-round performance was awarded to Garima Bawa (Physics), and Tejas Ramakrishnan (Computer Science and Engineering) was awarded the prestigious Rattan Swarup Memorial Prize, the official press release stated.
At the convocation, students who excelled in various fields were awarded proficiency medals and IIT Kanpur Excellence Awards for community service, leadership in student affairs, and contribution to arts and cultural activities, IIT Kanpur said.
