The ‘Rangavati Center of Excellence in Cultural and Sustainable Management’ was inaugurated by Union Minister for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan at the ongoing 9th Pan-IIM World Management Conference at IIM Sambalpur.
Addressing the gathering during the inauguration, Pradhan stressed that the primary focus of the center will be research on the art, literature, culture and history of Western Odisha, with special emphasis on textiles. He expressed confidence that the center will prove to be a hub to preserve the cultural heritage of Odisha including dance, soulful songs, nature worship and the rich food culture of the state.
According to a press release issued by the institution, those present during the inaugural ceremony included Ratnesh Jha, Executive Director of UN Global Compact, SN Tripathi, Director General of IIPA, New Delhi and Romal Shetty, CEO of Deloitte.

Professor BS Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu, Professor Kulbhushan Baluni, Director of IIM Kashipur, Professor Bhimarai Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur and Professor Pawan Kumar Singh, Director of IIM Trichy were also present in the program.
Professor Mahadev Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur, stressed the importance of 3D disruptions – digitalisation, decarbonisation and democratization of business, saying the world is being disrupted through the three Ds. He also stressed India’s potential to lead the world in digital disruptions, citing initiatives like UIDAI and UPI.
Professor Jaiswal said that the Rangavati Center of Excellence will have an open theater to showcase the vibrant art and culture of the region.

Similarly, Deloitte CEO Romal Shetty, who attended the event as CEO, spoke on the importance of innovation in various aspects of India’s development by focusing on collaboration, sustainability and digital governance. He said innovation requires a holistic approach, and highlighted examples like Chandrayaan, Malcolm Maclean’s containerization and Indian companies like CEAT that revolutionized the logistics industry.
Whereas, guest of honor SN Tripathi highlighted the role of IIMs in the country and the need for a mindset shift in many departments and organizations within Indian ministries and the infrastructure of the government.
It is noteworthy that a Doctoral Consortium was also organized which proved to be an invaluable platform for interested scholars and doctoral candidates. The 4-day conference began on January 22 on the theme “Entrepreneurial Innovation and Digital Governance for Inclusive and Sustainable Development”.
According to the press release, the conference will bring together directors from 21 IIMs and is expected to include participants from various IIMs, IITs, NITs and other management institutes in India and globally.
