Indira Gandhi National Open University hosted her 38th convocation on 5 March 2025 at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Convention Center, Ignau Maidan Garhi campus.
More than 3 lakh degrees, diplomas, and certificates were honored at the convocation to the students in their respective programs. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was the chief guest and gave the address of the 38th convocation.
“There is an opportunity to speak at IGNOU’s 38th convocation, celebrating the success of more than 3.17 lakh successful learners – most in the history of the university. Since its establishment in 1985, Ignau has revolutionized education by making it cheap, flexible and inclusive. With a strong global appearance in over 35 million learners and 58 countries, Ignau is the largest university in the world, ensuring that education reaches everyone including all marginalized communities. Its excellence is reflected in its top ranking among open universities in Nirf 2024, ”said Dharmendra Pradhan.

Highlighting the demographic dividend gains with India, the minister emphasized the need for skill development, which is important for the youth of India, with 65% of the population under the age of 35. He talked about Ignau’s industry-handled commercial programs and collaborations with NSDC, which ensure employment through NSQF-unknown courses in health and environmental science.
As a guest of honor, Prof., Director, IIM Tiruchirappalli. Pawan Kumar Singh appreciated the university for his efforts to make higher education accessible to all sections of the society, mentioning the press release.
Pro. Uma Kanjilal, Vice Chancellor Ignu, mentioned that Ignnau has been successful in realizing its mandate of access, inclusion, quality and strength in higher education. With the average annual intake of 7.5 lakh learners, the university is making significant contribution to gross enrollment ratio in higher education.
Five skill-based bachelor’s degree programs are specially designed for the unknowable of defense forces. More than 5000 Agnives have been nominated in these programs. The university is constantly connecting new educational programs and reaching new learner areas. In 2024, a total of 47 new programs were introduced, which took the total programs to 334, Ignnau informed.
The convocation ceremony was done in 39 regional centers of the university across the country and in 15 countries in the foreign centers of the university, while the main task was held at the university headquarters.
