Astana. It has been more than 30 months since the war between Russia and Ukraine, but it is still not coming to an end. All the big countries of the world are trying to bring peace back to both countries. However, at the moment it does not seem possible. Russian President Vladimir Putin talks about ending the war, but he is not ready to bow down to Ukraine in any way. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also does not want to lay down arms and for this reason the war continues as usual.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has made a statement that can shake the ground beneath Zelensky’s feet. In fact, he says that Russia is ‘militarily invincible’. If the Ukraine war continues, its consequences will be ‘very serious’ for the entire human race.
He said this on Monday during a meeting with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is on a visit to Germany. Scholz is the first head of the German government to visit Kazakhstan in 14 years.
Welcoming Scholz at Akorda, Tokayev stressed that the Central Asian country shares the world’s longest fenced land border with Russia. He also said that the Kazakh people have “genuine respect” for the Ukrainian people and their culture. “It is obvious that Russia is invincible in military terms. If the war drags on, the consequences will be very serious for all mankind, first of all, for the countries that are directly involved in the conflict,” Tokayev said.
The President of Kazakhstan said, “Unfortunately, Istanbul refused to ratify the agreement and lost the best opportunity to achieve reconciliation. However, there is still a chance for peace. All peaceful initiatives of different countries should be carefully reviewed. An agreement must be reached for the cessation of hostilities.”
Tokayev clarified that there are “no disagreements” between his country and Ukraine. He added that the Kazakhstan embassy is still functioning in Kyiv. During the meeting, the two leaders confirmed that they are interested in expanding mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation. Last year, bilateral trade turnover between Germany and Kazakhstan increased 1.5 times to $4 billion. Over the past seven months, mutual trade exceeded $2.3 billion.
