ICAI CA final May 2025 introduces guidelines for permanent exemption, check notice here

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, ICAI has presented guidelines for the May 2025 candidates related to permanent exemption in papers or for CA.

According to the guidelines issued by ICAI, the candidates who had achieved exemption in the May 2023 examination and had validity till November 2024, will now have the option to make the discount permanent after the announcement of the results of November 2024.

points to remember:

1. According to ICAI, candidates will get a chance to make the discount permanent only once. If a candidate fails to do so, his exemption will miss forever).
2. If a candidate has exemption in two letters of the same group, for example, papers 1 and 2 of Group -1 to be offered in this window, then, he/he has to apply for both discounts (ie Paper -1 and Paper -2 in Group -1) or give rebate to both. ICAI said that he could not choose the option to continue a paper exemption and allows it to miss in another paper.
3. When permanent for any group, the candidate must pass the respective group with at least 50 percent marks in each of the remaining letters of that group.
4. There will be no improvement or late fee window after taking input.
5. Candidates will have the option to surrender and re -surrender in permanently relaxed paper (s).
6. In May 2022, November 2022, May 2023 or November 2023, the candidates who have been exempted from the finals will automatically get a permanent discount from being displayed in the Self-Extra Module Set-A and will not require to apply.
7. In May 2022, November 2022, May 2023 or November 2023, the candidates who have been exempted in Paper-5 will also automatically get a permanent discount from being displayed in the self-book module set-B and will not require to apply.
8. If a group has a permanent exemption (50PE), no new discounts will be given in that group.
9. If a candidate wants to make the discount permanent after the same exhaustion, the exempted marks will be limited to 50 and additional marks of permanent relaxed paper cannot be considered for compliance with the requirement of the same or 50% total marks of the same or other group.

Meanwhile, ICAI announced the results of the Chartered Accountancy (CA) Intermediate and Foundation Course for the January 2025 examinations on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

The overall pass percentage of the ICAI CA Foundation January 2025 examination is 21.52 percent. While for ICAI CA Intermediate January 2025 exam, it is 22.16 percent.
