A young boy’s desire for innocent food has led to the possibility of a menu change in Anganwadis in Kerala. A viral video shows Thrjul’s Shankar, who requests Shanku to his mother, “I want to fry biryani and chicken in Anganwadi instead of Upma.” The mother filmed this adorable request while feeding Biryani at home and later shared it on Instagram.
The video quickly attracted attention, reaching Kerala’s health, women and child welfare minister Veena George. He assured that the government would consider revising the Anganwadi menu based on Shanku’s suggestion. Veena George posted a video on her Facebook page and mentioned that the child’s innocent request would be taken into consideration. He also sent his warm relationship for Shanku, his mother and Anganwadi employees.
In his statement, the minister highlighted that Anganwads already provide various foods to ensure the nutrition of children.
“Under this government, the plan to provide eggs and milk through Anganwadis has been successfully implemented. In coordination with the Department of Women and Child Development, local bodies provided various types of foods in Anganwadis, “George said.
In the viral video, wearing cones, a hat, says, “I need ‘Birnani’ (Biryani) and ‘Porcha Kozy’ (chicken fry) in Anganwadi instead of Upma.”
His request attracted so much attention that some people also offered him to bring biryani and chicken fry.
“After watching the video, we received calls from some people who offered a cone to Biryani and Chicken Fry,” Shanku’s mother told a news channel.

Kerala has about 33,000 Anganwad, and in 2022, the government launched milk and eggs. The state is now working on converting these centers into smart Anganwadis, which are equipped with study rooms, toilets, kitchens, storerooms, dining areas, halls, gardens and play zones. Additionally, the government has increased the wages of Anganwadi teachers, most of which (95%) are women.
