This shortcoming is the lack of ignoring loved ones in the struggle to earn money and not being able to give them time. Aamir Khan has recently talked about this in one of his podcasts. Aamir Khan appeared on Rhea Chakraborty’s podcast show. Here Aamir cried while talking about his family. Aamir Khan said, ’10 years ago, I realized for the first time that I am not able to give time to my family. During Covid, I got a lot of time to think about it. Earlier, I was working in films for almost 30 years and I was so lost in my film world that I never got a chance to sit down and think about my life. I used to work 24 hours. People used to ask, you do only one film in 3 years, why are you so busy. But I used to spend 3 years making just one film. I used to be completely busy in that. I used to get so lost in just one film that people do not get so lost in 10 films.’

Aamir further says, ‘I spent 30 years in the intoxication of that work and in those 30 years, I did not give any time to the people close to me. This was not a matter of 3 days or 3 weeks or 3 years. I am talking about 30 years. My mother is getting old, I don’t know how much time is left. This feeling came to me. Ayra was suffering from depression at that time. She needs me. Junaid is starting his career. He has lived his whole life alone without me. Now he is probably taking the last big step of his life. If I am not with them at this time, then what will be left. Azad is 9 years old and in 2-3 years he will become a teenager. He has the last few years of his childhood left. And it is not that I am not connected to them.

I didn’t know anything about my children…
Aamir says, ‘Through my stories, through my characters, I have held the hand of my audience. But I don’t know what fears, what needs, what emotions Ayra or Junaid had when they were 4-5 years old. But I knew everything about my director, my film team, the people with whom I spent time or the people who became my family for that film. Because I had to work with them. I knew all this but I didn’t know anything about my children… I felt very bad about this.’ While saying this, the actor’s voice choked and tears rolled down his eyes.

I decided to quit films, I started hating it
Talking about this shortcoming in his life, Aamir further says, ‘I myself realized that the time that has passed will not come back, Ayra-Junaid’s childhood will not come back. The 30 years that I have not been able to live with Ammi will not come back. She never complained to me about this. This feeling changed my life. Then I decided that I am going to leave the thing that has kept me away from my family. I was so angry at myself and my work. I had decided that I will complete ‘Lal Singh Chaddha’ and then leave this industry. I was happy that I realized this at the age of 56. Because what would have happened if I had realized this at the age of 86…?
