This hotel, built on the orders of Hitler on the island of Rügen in the Baltic Sea of ​​Germany, is known as the Colossus of Prora. At the behest of Hitler, Nazi architect Clemens Klotz designed this hotel in 1930. 20,000 rooms were to be built in this hotel. About nine thousand laborers worked continuously to complete the building, then the Second World War broke out.

The Nazi organization Kraft durch Freude took the responsibility of preparing this island spread over a radius of about five kilometers, which means gaining strength through happiness. Hitler’s objective behind building this hotel was that the German people, especially the soldiers, could spend time having fun after work. The hotel was named Prora, which means barren land. It got this name because the hotel was built on a sandy place in the middle of the sea. The work of building a hotel started on a large scale.

About nine thousand laborers were employed in the construction of the hotel who worked day and night. To build it, work continued continuously from 1936 to 1939. At that time, 237.5 million German currency was invested in this project. In today’s time this cost is approximately 899 million US dollars. Its eight housing blocks, theater and cinema hall were ready. The work on the swimming pool and festival hall was about to begin when the Second World War started and the work stopped in 1939. All the laborers were sent to the army.

The plan was to build the biggest hotel
Hitler wanted to make Prora the largest hotel in the world. He wanted to build such a huge resort that it would be the largest resort in the world so far. His plan was to build a hotel with 20,000 bedrooms. The plan was to keep every room facing the sea. The size of each room was to be 5 by 2.5 meters, with two beds, a wardrobe and a sink. There was also a plan to build a huge building in the middle of the complex, which, if needed, could be converted into a military hospital in times of war.

After this the work of the hotel could never be started again. The half-built buildings of the hotel were used by the soldiers as barracks. Earlier the soldiers of the Soviet Army hid here. After which the soldiers of the National People’s Army and then the Unified Armed Forces of Germany stayed here. Apart from the soldiers, common people also used to come here to hide during the bombings. During this time, this shining building started falling apart badly and turning into ruins.

Military post also built
After the war, Prora was used as a military post for the East German army. After the unification of Germany in 1990, some parts of it were used as a military technical school. Then later refugees from the Balkans came and stayed here. Some of its blocks are in ruins. Barring them, the rest of the hotel still looks beautiful.

Attempts were made several times to sell Hitler’s dream hotel. But this effort never came to fruition. Every time the deal broke down for some reason or the other. People believed that many lives would have been lost here during the war, hence this place could also be haunted. After the year 2004, we started getting success in selling different parts of this hotel. The buyer of each share has used the purchased space in his own way. Now it is no longer a hotel to accommodate 20 thousand people, but in one part the world’s largest hostel is built, which is known as Block Four.
