Heatwave in India: In view of the ongoing summer wave, the Odisha government has reinstated school time from class 1 to 12 with immediate effect.
The school time from Class-I to CIASS-XII has been re-resolved from 6:30 am to 10.30 pm, according to the latest notification of Odisha School and Mass Education Department.
Odisha Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari told reporters that the ongoing school examinations would end on 27 March, and after that, classes will start from April 2.
He said that Anganwadi centers will also work from 7 am to 9 am during summer.
The priest further said that many areas such as Odisha, such as Buddhist, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Bolngir and Sundargarh are already experiencing heatwave conditions.

India Meteorological Department (IMD), March 16, Sunday, issued heatwave warnings and alerts for various districts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Delhi, Maharashtra and Goa.
In Jharkhand, the temperature in seven districts rose to 40 degrees Celsius, while in Karnataka, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao told the people to stay indoors between 12 noon and 3 pm, PTI.
Odisha schools directed to ban external activities
In view of Heatwave, the Odisha government has also directed schools to reduce external activities in the state. The latest release of the Education Department states that sufficient ORS packets should also be kept in schools and should be provided to students/ employees.
What is a heatwave
According to the Met Department, a heatwave is declared when “the maximum temperature of a station reaches at least 40 ° C or more for the plains and at least 30 ° C or more for the mountainous areas.”
In severe cases, heatwaves also result in sunstroke, leading to death. Odisha’s Disaster Management Minister told ANI, “Over the last 10 years, more than 330 people have died due to sunstroke. We have asked the authorities to take steps to curb Sunstroke’s death.”
