With many parts of India battling heatwave conditions, the possibility of heatstroke or related illness is increasing. Earlier on May 3, it was also reported that hospitals across India are seeing an unprecedented rise in patients suffering from heat-related illnesses, with experts warning that the number may increase in the coming days as the country faces severe heat waves. The heat wave continues. The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has also created a digital platform to record heatstroke cases and deaths. Doctors from 120 government hospitals in 21 states will now upload data directly to the platform to help public health policymakers make informed decisions, according to people familiar with the matter.
If you/someone is feeling dizzy or uneasy due to heatstroke, here are some first aid measures:
The Health Ministry has listed first aid measures for people to know when someone feels dizzy or uneasy.
1. Drink water to rehydrate.
2. If possible, wear loose clothes
3. Go to a cool place immediately
4. Place a sponge or cloth soaked in water on your forehead. Additionally, you can apply ice packs to your forehead, neck and wrists to cool your body.
5. If someone is unconscious, do not force feed or give water.
6. The ministry has also said that if symptoms persist, go to the nearest hospital or call an ambulance.
Here are some symptoms of heatstroke in children that you need to know
1. Refusal to eat
2. Excessive irritability
3. Decreased urine output
4. Dryness of oral mucosa and absence of tears/sunken eyes.
5. Dullness or altered sensorium

Symptoms of heatstroke in adults:
The Health Ministry has also listed eight symptoms of heatstroke in adults. they are:
1. Altered mental sensation
2. Hot, red and dry skin
3. High body temperature
4. Severe headache
5. Anxiety, dizziness, fainting and dizziness
6. Muscle weakness and cramps
7. Nausea and vomiting
8. Hot flashes.
IMD heatwave prediction
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heat wave conditions in isolated areas of Saurashtra and Kutch and Gujarat region during the next 5 days. Additionally, the weather office also predicted heatwave conditions over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Interior Karnataka on May 7; over western Rajasthan during 7–10 May; Over eastern Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh during 8–10 May. The IMD also said that hot and humid weather is likely over isolated parts of Kerala and Mahe and coastal Karnataka during the next 3 days. Notably, the weather office has also said that the heat conditions are likely to subside over the eastern and south peninsular regions of the country as the region is likely to experience thunderstorms till May 10.
